Rashid took six wickets, Afghanistan defeat Ireland to take series lead

Awaz E Bihar•8 August 2026 at 04:55 pm•24 views•2 min read

Ibrahim Zadran's 84 runs and Rashid Khan's brilliant bowling helped Afghanistan defeat Ireland by 92 runs in the rain-affected second one-day match, taking the lead in the three-match series.
The match, played at the Brady Cricket Club on Friday, was delayed due to bad weather and was reduced to 47 overs per team. Ireland won the toss and decided to bowl first. Afghanistan, led by Ibrahim Zadran, scored 299 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
Afghanistan had a good start. After Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out, Siddiqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran took control of the innings and shared a crucial 116-run partnership. After Atal's dismissal, Ibrahim adopted an aggressive approach and completed his half-century in 52 balls. Captain Ibrahim was out for 84 runs, while Rahmat Shah played a key role with a 43-run contribution. In the end, Hashmatullah Shahidi played a quick innings of 36 runs in just 21 balls, taking Afghanistan to a strong score.
Chasing a target of 300 runs, Ireland made a good start despite losing Paul Stirling's wicket early and matched Afghanistan's score in the power play. Andy Balbirnie batted well, while Curtis Camphor completed his first half-century in just his fourth ODI in 44 balls.
However, Rashid Khan broke Ireland's momentum by dismissing Andy Balbirnie and Harry Tector in quick succession. Lorcan Tucker and Camphor tried to steady the innings, but Tucker was run out and Camphor returned to the pavilion in the very next over. At that time, Ireland's score was 152 runs for the loss of five wickets.
After that, Ben Kiltz and Curtis Camphor adopted an aggressive approach, adding 41 runs in three overs, but Rashid broke the partnership by bowling Kiltz. Ireland's innings then collapsed quickly, and the team lost its last four wickets for just nine runs. Rashid took three of those wickets and finished the match with impressive figures of six wickets for 34 runs. The entire Irish team was all out for 207 runs in 33.4 overs, and Afghanistan won by 92 runs.
The first ODI was abandoned without a toss due to rain. The next ODI between the two teams will be played at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast on Monday.
