Oath-taking ceremony likely in Bihar Legislative Assembly on November 18

Allegations of accepting BJP membership have been levelled against independent candidates Banshi Dhar Borwasi and Rahul Raj.

The oath-taking of new and old members in the Bihar Legislative Assembly is likely on November 18, but political tug-of-war has intensified before that. A dispute has also emerged over the membership of candidates who won on the eight seats reserved for teachers and graduates.

Allegations of accepting BJP membership have been levelled against independent candidates Banshi Dhar Borwasi and Rahul Raj. RJD and Jan Suraaj have also demanded the termination of their membership, but this demand has not progressed for now due to technical legal complexities.

The real question is whether any action should not be taken if independent candidates joined a political party and changed their political allegiance after winning? And can such cases be avoided under the cover of technical legal flaws?

The picture of the Legislative Assembly will also change after the new oath-taking. Several old faces, including Nool Kishore Yadav, who has been a member for the last 30 years, will not be seen in the House, while new members of RJD, BJP, JDU, and Jan Suraaj will make their mark.

Now, it remains to be seen whether the November 18 oath-taking will be just the arrival of new members or will also prove to be the beginning of a new alignment in Bihar politics?
