Kolkata, ahead of the second phase of assembly elections in West Bengal, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a massive public rally in Dum Dum on Friday, launching a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress government over the state's law and order situation, women's safety, and the need for political change. The event was also attended by the mother of Rhea Chakraborty, who was present on the dais, as well as BJP candidate from Panihati, Ratan Debnath. In his address, Prime Minister Modi said that after the BJP forms the government, every old file will be reopened, and justice will be provided. He assured that he has come to assure every daughter of Bengal that the BJP will not let their dreams be shattered. He mentioned that as he arrived at the pandal, a sister tied a *rakhi* on his wrist, after which he prioritized women's safety.
He emphasized that old cases related to atrocities against women will be reopened, and the culprits will face severe punishment. The Prime Minister alleged that in the state, women are seeking justice, but instead of providing protection, they are being advised to remain silent. Targeting the government of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister Modi remarked that peace and tranquility are continuously deteriorating in West Bengal. He cited the tragic example of a mother who raised her daughter to become a doctor, only to have her taken away during the Trinamool Congress's rule. He described the situation as extremely painful for the state.
Referring to the legacy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Prime Minister Modi noted that when Netaji gave the message of freedom to the nation, now is the time to chart a new path for Bengal. He stressed that this change can be achieved through a single vote of the people, and that the voters will ultimately decide the future of the state. Reflecting on his visit, Prime Minister Modi considered his arrival in Belur Math an honor. He also shared his experience of seeing the Ganges, interacting with ordinary citizens, and paying homage to Goddess Kali at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. Furthermore, he paid tribute to the mothers and sisters of the state.
In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Modi announced that a change of government is necessary to restore Bengal's pride, transform it into a land of opportunities, and ensure a safe and peaceful environment for women. He emphasized that if the BJP forms the government, cases of atrocities against women will be investigated swiftly, and the culprits will be punished.
