Constitution and democracy are being destroyed by stealing votes: Rahul Gandhi

Awaz E Bihar•24 September 2026 at 03:56 pm•10 views•6 min read

Former Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has said that the anti-incumbency wave against the BJP has been completely eradicated by weakening the constitution, law and democratic institutions through vote theft. He said that the vote theft being done by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been revealed by his colleagues, so he should resign. He said that many people including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, industrialist Gautam Adani are involved in the vote theft conspiracy. Vote theft is a huge attack on the country's democracy and this conspiracy to harm the country's democracy is treason. They will not remain silent against the vote-stealing traitors. He said that two election commissioners with him are questioning Mr. Gyanesh Kumar's decisions. He said that Mr. Gyanesh Kumarji is an educated person and he knows how much the country is suffering because of him, so the Chief Election Commissioner should leave his post. Mr. Gandhi said at a press conference at party headquarters Indira Bhavan here on Thursday that Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that there will be BJP rule for the next 30 years and people should get used to it, shows that something is wrong. He said that the anti-incumbency wave can never end and if this is happening, something is wrong. He said that a political party or a leader cannot always be popular. He gave an example and said that Indira Gandhi was the most popular Prime Minister of the country during the Bangladesh war, but after two or three years there was a strong anti-government wave against her. There has been an anti-incumbency wave against former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Rajiv Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and the Chief Ministers of various states, but now this wave against the BJP seems to have completely disappeared and its disappearance raises important questions.
He said that he comes from a political family and has been watching politics for the past 50 years. They feel that no political party or leader can claim to be in power for long. He said that in states like Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, one party comes and another goes, but now the situation has changed. This anti-incumbency wave has ended.
Mr. Gandhi said that the country is being ruined by stealing votes. In this regard, the constitution comes first, then the law and then the institutions, but according to them, today the constitution is being weakened, the autonomy of the law and institutions is being eliminated. If the constitution ceases to exist, laws weaken and institutions are abolished, nothing will be left.
He said that the constitution is empowered by vote, laws are made by vote and institutions are run by law. When the people vote, the constitution gains power, but if the vote is abolished, the laws and institutions are meaningless. He said that work has been done to destroy the vote in the country and due to this the institutions have also weakened.
Mr. Gandhi said that he had raised the issue of 'vote theft' in the country by holding a press conference on October 28, 2025 and after that he told the people through 'Vote Chori Adhikar Yatra' that votes are being stolen. He said that before this there was vote theft in Haryana as well and the Election Commission was aware of these incidents. Pressure was put on the Election Commission through these press conferences. When asked how he knew that votes were being stolen, he said that when the anti-incumbency wave was completely over, it meant votes were being stolen.
Mr. Gandhi said that vote theft is being done both by removing names from the voter list and through EVMs. Names of voters are being changed, removed from the list and votes are also being stolen through EVMs. He said that the questions raised by two election commissioners two days ago have confirmed his claim of vote theft. Both the Election Commissioners have filed objections against the decisions of the Chief Election Commissioner and this was only possible when he told through his press conference that the votes were being stolen. Mr. Gandhi said that he took out a yatra against vote theft and raised many issues, but at that time the two election commissioners did not say anything and when the things said in their press conference started to be proved true, the election commissioners did the work of filing objections against the decision of the Chief Election Commissioner under this pressure.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has found a way to steal votes. He enacted a law in December 2023 which changed the system of selection of the Chief Election Commissioner. In this regard, he had written a letter to the Prime Minister and said that the selection process of the Election Commission should be fair, but his words were ignored and later the Chief Election Commissioner was appointed based on them. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is a highly educated person and should understand what he is doing for the country. He said that normal work is not being done but the constitution has been attacked and work has been done to weaken it. He said that the Chief Election Commissioner should resign immediately.
Mr. Gandhi showed pictures of some people including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, saying that these people are involved in a conspiracy to destroy democracy. He said that the Election Commission has been selected by the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah and now their two Election Commissioners working with the Chief Election Commissioner are questioning them. He said that the vote has ended and the law-making institutions are also being abolished. The Congress leader said that the country has never gone through such a situation since 1947. Electoral processes are being dismantled, law-making institutions are being destroyed, votes are being stolen and institutions are being dismantled. He said that this is the first time in the history of the country's independence that he is seeing such a situation.
He said that the way Mr. Modi and others have done 'vote theft', there must be an investigation and those responsible for the vote theft conspiracy will be punished. He said that he appreciates the courage of the two Election Commissioners who raised their voices against what is happening in the Election Commission because they are revealing what is happening.
Mr. Gandhi said that what he is saying is not any kind of conjecture or misrepresentation but is based on truth. He alleged that the Prime Minister and Home Minister have destroyed the country's democracy and those who have done the work to destroy the constitution will be investigated. He said that Congress is the party fighting for the freedom of the country and it will not remain silent in this fight to save the democracy and the constitution. He said that the Congress is not going to give up on the issue and will continue its fight against vote theft.
