Patna: (ABN) The state government has initiated a major effort to revive the state's natural heritage and attract tourists. The tourism department has decided to prepare a comprehensive 'Eco-Tourism Master Plan' for the overall development of the state's key ecological and natural tourist destinations. The first phase of this ambitious project includes seven districts, including Nalanda, which is set to redefine the landscape of natural tourism in Bihar.
In the first phase, the forests, hills, and waterfalls of the selected seven districts will be developed and presented as a model for other districts. The districts included in this initial phase are Nalanda, Kaimur, West Champaran, Araria, Kishanganj, Banka, and Saharsa.
Recent statistics indicate that Nalanda has attracted the most tourists in the state. With this in mind, Nalanda has been designated as a key hub for this master plan. Under this scheme, the natural assets of Rajgir hills, Nature Safari, Zoo Safari, and Ghora Katora Lake, along with the surrounding green spaces, will be developed as modern and attractive destinations. The primary objective is to increase the duration of tourists' stays, thereby generating maximum benefits for the local economy.
A scientific assessment of each district's natural and tourist potential will be conducted before implementing the ground plan. Developmental activities will be carried out in a phased manner based on the report. At the selected tourist spots, facilities such as accessible road connectivity, organized parking, modern information centers, robust sanitation arrangements, secure trekking routes, rest areas, and other essential tourist amenities will be developed.
The tourism department believes that eco-tourism is not limited to just increasing tourist numbers, but also serves as a powerful tool for environmental conservation and rural development. Local youth, self-help groups, and small business owners will be directly involved in these activities, creating new and sustainable employment opportunities.
DFO Rajkumar Mohan stated that 11 water reservoirs in the district have been selected for the development of eco-tourism. Furthermore, a outline of potential development works has been prepared and presented to the department. The process of forming the master plan is currently underway at the departmental level.
