Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar took VRS, became the state's Chief Information Commissioner

Patna, Sep 27 (ABN) Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has taken voluntary retirement (VRS) from the Indian Police Service ahead of his retirement in December. The state government approved his VRS with immediate effect and appointed him as Chief Information Commissioner of Bihar. According to a notification issued by the state home department yesterday, Mr. Kumar, a 1991 batch IPS officer, applied for VRS on September 25. The government immediately approved their request by waiving the mandatory notice period of 3 months. His term as DGP was to be completed in December 2026. According to a separate notification of the General Administration Department, Mr. Kumar has been appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner of Bihar from the date of taking charge. Mr. Kumar was on leave since mid-September. In his absence, senior IPS officer Preeta Verma has been given the additional charge of acting DGP of Bihar. With this development, the process of appointing a new permanent DGP in Bihar has also become important. The selection of the new DGP under the process of the Union Public Service Commission is underway after the state government forwards the names of senior IPS officers to the Centre.
