The Congress said that the BJP has always been against giving reservations to women and that is why this time it conspired to bring delimitation under the guise of women's reservation, due to which the constitutional amendment bill introduced in Parliament fell and the BJP had to face defeat. The party said that the BJP has never wanted to give reservations to women. It has always been against women's reservations and that is why when former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi introduced a constitutional amendment bill to give reservations to women in 1990, the BJP opposed it, due to which the bill could not be passed in Parliament. Congress spokesperson Surya Shrinet said at a press conference at the party headquarters on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scared, which is why he mentioned the Congress 58 times in his 29-minute address to the nation last week, almost every 30 seconds. This clearly shows that Mr. Modi was shedding crocodile tears during his address to the nation due to the failure of his alleged conspiracy to bring delimitation under the guise of women's reservation. She said that instead of being sad about the constitutional amendment bill falling, Mr. Modi should arrange for 33% reservation for women based on 543 Lok Sabha seats, and the Congress will fully support this arrangement. She said that out of the current 543 seats, 181 seats should be given to women and should not be hindered. The Congress spokesperson accused the Prime Minister of being insensitive towards women and said that wherever women are mistreated in the country, Mr. Modi does not say anything. She alleged that Mr. Modi has insulted women by using words like 'Congress's widow' for Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. She said that the BJP, which talks about women's reservation, should remember that when the women's reservation bill was introduced during Rajiv Gandhi's tenure, the BJP had voted against it. The Congress alleged that during the BJP's tenure, crimes against women have increased. According to the party, the number of such cases has exceeded 4 lakh and rape cases are also consistently increasing. The Congress also said that out of the BJP's more than 1600 MLAs, only 167 are women. Despite the BJP being in power in several states, there is only one woman Chief Minister in one state. The party said that this clearly shows that the BJP is not sensitive towards women and that is why it faced failure in getting the constitutional amendment bill passed in Parliament.
