Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday termed Digital India as a revolutionary program that has transformed governance, empowered citizens, and laid a strong foundation for a developed and self-reliant India. In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the flagship initiative has brought about a revolution in the delivery of public services, accelerated innovation, and improved the ease of living for millions of Indians through technology-driven governance.
Modi said today we are completing 11 years of the launch of Digital India. This initiative has redefined governance, empowered citizens, and accelerated holistic development. It has touched every aspect of life. Highlighting the successes of the program, he said seamless digital payments, direct benefit transfers, and the rapid expansion of India's digital public infrastructure have made governance more transparent, efficient, and accessible.
The Prime Minister wrote that from seamless digital payments and direct benefit transfers reaching beneficiaries with transparency to the expanding digital public infrastructure, technology has become a powerful tool to advance the ease of living. Modi said the Digital India mission has inspired innovation across the country, providing opportunities from rural areas and small towns beyond metropolitan centers.
According to him, young entrepreneurs, start-ups, and innovators in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities are rapidly developing solutions to tackle global challenges. He said Digital India has taken the wave of innovation to all parts of India, particularly villages, Tier-2, and Tier-3 cities. Young entrepreneurs, start-ups, and innovators from every corner of the country are seeking solutions to the serious challenges that our planet faces.
The Prime Minister further said the initiative has strengthened critical sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce, and public service delivery by leveraging digital technologies. Looking to the future, Modi said India's growing capabilities in emerging technologies will create new opportunities for economic growth and innovation. This will also open up new avenues for development and opportunities. Our focus will be on building a future where technology serves humanity, empowers every citizen, and advances sustainable development.
In a separate post, the Prime Minister termed Digital India as a crucial pillar in the country's journey to becoming a developed nation. He said Digital India is a strong foundation for a developed and self-reliant India. Over the past 11 years, it has played a key role in making citizens' lives easier as well as empowering the poor and marginalized. The unprecedented success of this initiative, from the expansion of the optical fiber network to the widespread adoption of digital transactions, has drawn the world's attention to India.
Emphasizing the scale of India's digital transformation, Modi said in another post that when over a billion people adopt technology, the impact is revolutionary! The Digital India program, launched on July 1, 2015, aims to transform the country into a digitally empowered society and a knowledge economy.
The initiative focuses on expanding digital infrastructure, improving digital access to government services, promoting digital literacy, and encouraging innovation through technology. Over the past decade, the program has facilitated the expansion of broadband connectivity, digital identity through Aadhaar integration, transactions based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, and the development of digital public infrastructure, which has been recognized internationally as a model of comprehensive digital governance.
