Patna, August 11: Bihar Minister for Information Technology, Urban Development and Housing, Nitesh Mishra, on Tuesday condemned the police action against students protesting over issues related to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) exams, saying that the movement has exposed the double standards of the Congress and opposition parties.
Addressing reporters at the BJP state office, Mr. Mishra said that the issues of students and youth are important for the country, but the opposition is adopting different approaches to student movements in different states.
The Minister said that when students took to the streets in Delhi, several senior leaders of the Congress and opposition extended their full support, but today when students are protesting over issues related to JPSC and JSSC exams in Jharkhand, the opposition is not willing to take notice.
Mr. Mishra said that in a democracy, students have the right to express their views in a peaceful and proper manner. Therefore, a question is also arising in the minds of the country's youth as to why the opposition's stance on the protests by students in Delhi and Jharkhand is different. He said that the opposition's changing stance on issues according to political convenience reflects their contradictory policies.
Questioning the opposition's stance in Parliament, the Minister said that there have been continuous attempts to disrupt the proceedings of Parliament for the past 15 days. He noted that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has clearly stated in the House that the government is ready to discuss and respond to every issue.
Mr. Mishra said that Parliament functions according to rules and parliamentary traditions. The opposition should raise their issues in the House and listen to the government's response with patience. He said that constantly changing subjects and disrupting parliamentary proceedings indicates that the opposition does not want to have a meaningful discussion.
