Patna, September 28: (ABN) A huge ruckus broke out in capital Patna on Monday during the protest of students, farmers and labor organizations who took to the streets for various demands. A clash broke out between the police and the protestors while stopping the protestors from Gandhi Maidan for the Lok Bhavan march near the Dak Bangla intersection. Police first used water cannons to disperse the protesters, followed by lathi charge. During the action, many students were injured, while many are reported to be unconscious. Police detained a large number of protesters. On Monday morning, people associated with various Left students, farmers and labor organizations gathered at Gandhi Maidan. The proposed Lok Bhavan march was scheduled to begin around 12 noon, but the protesters started moving ahead of schedule. The police had put up barricades at various places to stop them. The protesters proceeded from Gandhi Maidan towards JP Golumbar, where the police tried to stop them. Meanwhile, the protesters broke the barricade and tangled with the police. Later, the march moved towards Dak Bangla intersection, where the police stepped up. Seeing the situation getting out of control at the Dak Bangla intersection, the police used water cannon around 12:50 am. However, the protesters were not ready to back down and continued to try to remove the barricade. At around 1:15 pm, the protestors again broke the barricade and tried to move forward, after which the police started lathi charge. Several nursing and paramedical students were also hit in the police action. Police rushed the protesters to disperse them. Many students were injured, while some students are also reported to be unconscious. The injured were sent to hospital for treatment. A large number of nursing and paramedical students also participated in the protest. According to the report, about 80 percent nursing and paramedical students of various colleges of Bihar State Health Science University have failed in the examination. The students were demanding the removal of the vice-chancellor of the university over the same issue. During the police action at the Dak Bangla intersection, the health of many students deteriorated. A nursing student is reported to be in worse condition. He was said to have pre-existing heart problems and his condition worsened after he was hit by a baton in the chest during police action, after which he was sent to hospital by ambulance. A student entered the ATM to escape the police, where he fell unconscious. He was also shifted to the hospital for treatment. One student fell unconscious on the road, while several other students were taken to hospital after their condition worsened. There are also reports of stone pelting by protesters during the protest. A stone hit Patna rural SP Komal Meena's helmet. According to the report, there was no serious injury on his head due to wearing a helmet, however, it has come to light that he was hit by a stone. A female journalist is also reported to have been injured. After the stone pelting, the police again charged the protesters with batons and pushed back the protesters and detained several people. The detained protestors were put in buses and taken away by the police. The protest, which started from Gandhi Maidan, dispersed at Dak Bangla intersection after about five hours of agitation. Around 2:40 pm, the police started clearing the Dak Bangla intersection. The protesters were pushed back from different routes. To avoid police action, many protestors, including students, were running around. Around 3 o'clock, the Dak Bangla intersection was completely evacuated. During this time, chaos continued in the area. The march was taken out by various student, peasant and labor organizations affiliated to the Left. The demands of the protestors included relief and compensation to the flood victims, new fertilizer policy, new education policy, inflation, unemployment, reservation for women, etc. Workers of various organizations including All India Kisan Sabha, All India Students Federation, All India Youth Federation, All India Trade Union Congress, Bharatiya Mahila Singh, Asha Singh, Rasuiya Singh, Anganbari Sevak and Sahaika Singh, Construction Workers Singh and Bihar State Council participated in the protest. After the action, injuries to students, stone pelting and arrest of a large number of protesters, there was tension and chaos in Patna for several hours.
