Awaz E Bihar•12 August 2026 at 02:40 pm•19 views•2 min read

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday, stating that the government is ready to discuss the issue of the students' movement regarding the NEET exam in Parliament. He has requested the opposition to allocate appropriate time for the subject by holding talks. In the letter, Amit Shah said that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has expressed the government's willingness to discuss the issue of the students' movement regarding the NEET exam in Parliament during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee. He said that on the demand of the opposition, a discussion has already taken place in the current parliamentary session on the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in which no member of the opposition has raised any issue related to the NEET exam in the House. Nevertheless, the government is ready to discuss the matter again. The Home Minister requested the Lok Sabha Speaker to hold talks with the opposition and allocate time for discussion on the subject with mutual consent, as much time and as many hours as deemed appropriate, starting from today. He said that during the allotted time, he wants to be present in the House and participate in the discussion on the matter and is ready to answer all questions from the opposition. Shah said that in democracy, solutions emerge only through discussion and dialogue. He said that he has unwavering faith in democracy and democratic institutions and believes that the House is for discussion and dialogue. He appealed to the Lok Sabha Speaker to hold talks with opposition leaders and create a conducive atmosphere in the House on this important subject, so that all members of the government and the opposition can present their views on the matter.
