Ahmedabad, 30 April - Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by four wickets in the 42nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Thursday, thanks to a brilliant batting performance after Arshad Khan (three wickets), Jason Holder, and Rashid Khan (two wickets each) bowled exceptionally well. This is Bangalore's second defeat of the season.
Gujarat Titans made a strong foundation in the power play while chasing the target of 156 runs, scoring 69 runs for the loss of two wickets in the first six overs. Captain Shubman Gill scored 43 runs, but missed out on a half-century, while Sai Sudharsan managed only six runs. Gill scored 24 runs in one over by Josh Hazlewood, hitting five boundaries, and provided a rapid start to the team.
In the middle overs, Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar steadied the innings. Buttler completed his 200 sixes in the IPL by hitting two consecutive sixes in an over by Sweesh Sharma but fell for 39 runs in the eighth over, caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bhuvneshwar had earlier dismissed Gill and Sudharsan. In the ninth over, Sundar's six helped Gujarat cross the 100-run mark, but in the 11th over, Romario Shepherd tried to bring the match back by dismissing Shahrukh Khan (8) and Sundar (12).
In the final overs, Shepherd bowled economically, conceding only five runs in an over, but Gujarat's strong start kept them ahead. Overall, Gujarat's batting maintained the pressure, but in the 14th over, Sweesh Sharma caught Jason Holder (12 runs) out on the fifth ball. After Holder's dismissal, Rashid Khan came in at number eight and, along with Rahul Tewatia, took the team to victory.
