One-day national seminar on 'Urdu satire and humor tradition and poetry in Bihar' held at Patliputra University, farewell ceremony of Professor Muhammad Abbas also organized Patna, July 29: A one-day national seminar on the topic of 'Urdu satire and humor tradition and poetry in Bihar' was organized by the PG Department of Urdu at the seminar hall of the College of Commerce. On this occasion, a farewell ceremony of Professor Muhammad Abbas, head of the Urdu department, was also held in a dignified and academic atmosphere. The seminar was attended by a large number of teachers, researchers, intellectuals, and research scholars from various universities in Bihar, who discussed the tradition of Urdu satire and humor, its literary importance, and social utility in detail.
In his inaugural address, Professor Ejaz Ali Arshad, former Vice-Chancellor of Maulana Mazharul Haq Arabic and Persian University, said that satire is a very attractive, fascinating, and effective genre of Urdu literature, in which social irregularities are highlighted through satire, humor, wit, and witty style of expression. He said that true satire is one that also has a reformative aspect and the one being satirized also enjoys it. He confessed that satire and humor are his first love, which still continues. Regarding poetry, he said that good poetry always affects the heart, whether it is serious or humorous; the only difference is that one causes pain and the other spreads smiles. On this occasion, he also recited his humorous poetry, which was highly appreciated by the audience. He also provided useful comments on the research papers presented by the research scholars and guided them academically.
Special guest Professor Abu Bakr Rizvi, Registrar of Patliputra University, said that Professor Muhammad Abbas has set a worthy example by converting his farewell ceremony into an academic seminar instead of a formal ceremony. He said that when it comes to Urdu satire and humor, the first name that comes to mind is Akbar Allahabadi, who has an extraordinary position in this genre. He also mentioned Dilar Faraz and while discussing the satirical poetry of Bihar, said that Raza Naqvi Wahi was the greatest satirical poet in Bihar. The satirical and thoughtful verses related to education, students, teachers, and universities in his poetry should be studied seriously. He said that although times have changed, Raza Naqvi Wahi's verses still seem to express the truth of their era. On this occasion, Professor Abu Bakr Rizvi, on behalf of the university, presented a shawl and a memento to Professor Muhammad Abbas, acknowledging his long teaching, administrative, and literary services.
Addressing the ceremony, Professor Krishnanand praised Professor Muhammad Abbas's honesty, discipline, and role in the examination system, saying that whenever he visited the examination centers as an observer, his presence would discipline the entire center. Professor Shahab Zafar Aazmi, head of the Urdu department at Patna University, said that people usually retire from active life after retirement, but Professor Muhammad Abbas has proved that there is no age limit for serving knowledge and literature by converting his retirement into an academic ceremony. He advised the research scholars to make sincerity, hard work, and study their motto in life. He emphasized that the real ability of a researcher lies in presenting the material in an effective manner.
In his presidential address, Professor Muhammad Abbas thanked all the guests, teachers, and participants, saying that even after retirement, he would remain associated with research and academic activities and would continue to guide the research scholars. He mentioned his teaching life, departmental development, and various academic experiences, advising young researchers to make sincerity, hard work, and study their motto in life. The seminar was also addressed by Professor Ashok Kumar, Professor Manwar Fazal, Dr. Asia Parveen, Dr. Mashraf Hyat, Dr. Irfan, Professor Zia Yousuf, Professor Akbar Ali, and other dignitaries, who shed light on the tradition of Urdu satire and humor and Professor Muhammad Abbas's academic services.
On this occasion, research scholars Anzarullah, Shazia Tabassum, Nishat Parveen, Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed, Sania Farhat Jamal, Muhammad Muraaj, Shaista Mehtab, Nikhat Hashmi, Shabana Ishrat, Sharaf Alam Shamsi, Kosar Tasneem, Nishat Aroos, Kehkashan Jabin, Muhammad Shahid Ahmed Alam, Khushboo Hasan Rizvi, Sumran Hasan Rizvi, and many other researchers presented their research papers, which were appreciated by the audience. Finally, Assistant Professor Dr. Nilofar Yasmin of the Urdu department expressed her gratitude, saying that the success of the seminar was the result of the cooperation of all the guests, speakers, teachers, researchers, and students who participated in this academic session despite their busy schedules. The program was conducted jointly by Muhammad Tamjeed Raza and Gul Saba, while the ceremony ended with the national anthem.
