India Block stages a massive protest outside parliament once again

Awaz E Bihar•6 August 2026 at 05:44 pm•14 views•3 min read

The opposition 'India' block on Thursday intensified its attack on the Centre, staging a massive protest demonstration at the Parliament gate and demanding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah respond to allegations of financial irregularities in the Ram temple fund and the alleged police excesses against protesting students. The protest was attended by Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, and other India block allies. Gathering near the Parliament gate, opposition members chanted slogans and accused the government of running away from issues concerning the country, demanding the presence of the Home Minister in Parliament. Holding placards and raising slogans like "Amit Shah, answer" and "Come to the Parliament session", the protesting MPs said that Parliament was the appropriate forum for responding to questions related to the alleged misuse of public donations for the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi temple and police action against students. During the protest, opposition leaders told journalists that the Centre had failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the allegations of financial irregularities in the Ram temple project donations. They demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into the allegations and a detailed explanation from the government. An opposition leader said, "Those who contributed to the Ram temple fund did so with devotion. Any allegations of misuse of donations must be addressed in a transparent manner. The government cannot remain silent on such serious questions." The India block had earlier intensified its attack on the government over the police action against students protesting over paper leak controversies and other exam-related issues on July 20. Opposition leaders alleged that security forces used excessive force, including the use of pellet guns, against peaceful protesters and demanded that those responsible be held accountable. Another opposition leader said, "The students of this country were expressing genuine concerns about their future and the transparency of exams. Instead of listening to them, they were allegedly subjected to brutal force. Those responsible must be held accountable, and the government must explain what happened." Both the issues of alleged financial irregularities in the Ram temple donations and the police response to student protests have become major flashpoints during the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. Opposition parties have demanded discussions on both issues inside and outside both Houses and accused the government of avoiding important debates. As the House proceedings continued to be disrupted, opposition members made it clear that they would continue their protest until the government responded to their demands. Thursday's protest at the Parliament gate was another organized effort by the India block to increase pressure on the government over the Ram temple fund and student protests. The Monsoon session has seen consistent clashes between the government and the opposition over issues related to exam controversies, the alleged misuse of Ram temple donations, and demands for ministerial accountability. With neither side in a mood to back down, the same issues are likely to dominate parliamentary proceedings in the coming days.
