Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a major blow on Tuesday when Ayush Mahatre was ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2026 due to a hamstring injury. CSK has confirmed that the 18-year-old player will require a rehabilitation period of 6 to 12 weeks to recover from his injury, which has forced him out of the tournament.
The young player was seen clutching his left hamstring while attempting a second run during batting against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 18 in Hyderabad. He required medical attention on the field before being helped off by Ramakrishna Ghosh and physio Tommy Simsek while walking off. The batsman underwent a scan on Monday to assess the severity of the injury.
Ayush Mahatre's absence will be a significant loss for CSK, as the five-time champion team is already struggling to find its footing in the tournament. After losing their first three matches, CSK had won the next two but suffered a defeat against Hyderabad recently. Mahatre has been his team's top scorer so far with a impressive strike rate of 177.87.
CSK suffered another blow just a few days ago when fast bowler Khalil Ahmed was ruled out of the tournament. The team had already lost Nathan Ellis to injury before the tournament began, while David Wiese also missed the initial matches. Experienced MS Dhoni is also not available for selection yet and will now be one of the contenders to fill the gap based on his fitness.
