Investment will come to West Bengal with trust, not fear: Modi

Awaz E Bihar•9 April 2026 at 01:47 pm•5 views•4 min read

Haldia: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an election rally in West Bengal on Thursday, launching a scathing attack on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress government, saying that the investment climate is created by trust, not fear, which only the BJP can provide. He said this election is not an ordinary election, but an election to restore the glory of Bengal.

The Prime Minister said that West Bengal was once the center of the country's economic and industrial development, but the current government has pushed the state back on the scale of development. Referring to the historical significance of Haldia, he said that in ancient times, this region was a major center of global trade and has become a major industrial hub in modern India, but now factories are being closed there.

Accusing the Trinamool Congress of practicing "politics of fear and syndicate", Modi said that industries and factories run on trust, not on "goondaism". In states where the BJP is in power, the environment of development and investment is built on that trust, and the same model will be implemented in Bengal.

Attacking the government on the issue of employment and migration, the Prime Minister said that people used to come to Haldia for employment, but today the youth of the area are migrating to other states in search of work. He alleged that under the Trinamool government, opportunities in the private sector are limited and corruption has affected government recruitment, shattering the dreams of the youth.

Intensifying his political attack, Modi said that a system of "cut money and commission" prevails in the state, causing trouble to the common people. He claimed that the people of Bengal have this time made up their minds for a change and the enthusiasm among people for the BJP's victory is evident.

Referring to Nandigram, he said that the results there five years ago showed the way for change, and the same will be repeated in Bhabanipur. This was a reference to the 2021 assembly elections, where Suvendu Adhikari posed a strong challenge to Mamata Banerjee.

Attacking the Trinamool government on the issue of communal reservations, the Prime Minister accused it of implementing policies that violate the Constitution to consolidate its vote bank. He said that the courts have repeatedly rejected such attempts, but the government is neither respecting the judiciary nor the Constitution due to politics of appeasement.

Modi said that if the BJP forms the government, all schemes will be implemented according to the Constitution, and every section of society will get their rightful rights. He particularly mentioned the Mahishya community, saying that their demands have been neglected for a long time.

Referring to the central government's schemes, the Prime Minister said that the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana has significantly increased fish and shrimp production in the country, but it has not been properly implemented in Bengal. He alleged that the Trinamool government either changes or does not implement schemes associated with the PM's name.

In this context, he mentioned the Ayushman Bharat scheme, saying that it provides free treatment to the poor and the elderly, but it has not been implemented in Bengal. He said that the public is suffering due to political animosity.

Advocating for a "double-engine government", the Prime Minister said that having the same party in power at the center and the state accelerates development. He assured that a BJP government will promote port-based development, blue economy, and the agricultural sector in Bengal, directly benefiting farmers and fishermen.

Promising to create employment, Modi said that after the formation of the BJP government, job fairs will be organized in the state to provide more opportunities to the youth. A wave of change has swept through Bengal, and the people are ready to move forward on the path of development and trust, ending the politics of fear.
