India's pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not travel with the team for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka in August. The BCCI medical team has advised him to stay away from competitive cricket until he achieves full fitness in his left knee. His replacement has not been announced yet. Bumrah has not played any match since the second ODI against England on July 16 in Cardiff. He was also ruled out of the last ODI at Lord's due to a knee injury sustained while fielding.
According to sources, after the England series, Bumrah was given an injection in his knee as part of the BCCI's long-term fitness planning. He arrived at the BCCI's Center of Excellence in Bengaluru this week, where his fitness tests were conducted. The medical team believes that if he starts bowling immediately, the injury could become more serious, which could keep him out of cricket for a longer period.
Bumrah had also visited the Center of Excellence in March this year for a fitness test before the IPL. He played 13 matches in the IPL but did not participate in Mumbai Indians' last match. The Indian team is already dealing with the unavailability of Harshit Rana (hamstring), Nitesh Kumar Reddy (quad strain), Washington Sundar (hamstring), and Akash Deep (lower back stress injury).
After the loss in the ODI series against England, captain Shubman Gill expressed concern over the constant injuries to players, saying that if some player is getting injured after every match, it means there is a lack of preparation somewhere.
