Patna, April 8 (ABN) Renowned Bollywood lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar has announced his return to the world of film storytelling after a long hiatus. While discussing his new book 'Sipiyon' at the concluding ceremony of 'Kitab Utsav' in Patna, he revealed that he has completed the scripts of two films, which will go into production soon. Javed Akhtar, who created blockbuster films like 'Sholay', 'Deewar', 'Zanjeer', and 'Don' with Salim Khan in the 70s and 80s, last wrote the script for his son Farhan Akhtar's film 'Lakshya' in 2004. During the event, he said, "During the COVID-19 days, I refocused on scriptwriting, and now I have completed the stories of two films. I will narrate these scripts to my children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. If they like it, that's fine; otherwise, I will approach other producers." He further stated that he began his career as a lyricist with director Yash Chopra's film "Silsila" in 1981. The song "Dekha Ek Khwab To Ye Silsile Hue..." from the film became extremely popular, following which he wrote many memorable songs. However, he has now started writing fewer film songs. Javed Akhtar expressed concern over the lack of depth in today's songs, saying that he has done a lot of work professionally, but the current situation does not suit his temperament. Referring to some obscene songs from the 90s, he said that he had rejected several big-budget films because they demanded the use of indecent language. Javed Akhtar emphasized that throughout his long career, not a single song of his has used obscene or indecent words. Regarding his new book 'Sipiyon', he said that it features simple explanations of selected dohas by great poets like Kabir, Tulsidas, Rahim, and Varind, so that the new generation can stay connected to its cultural roots.
