Patna (ABN) The proceedings of the Bihar Assembly were adjourned till 12 pm on Friday, just minutes after it began, due to opposition uproar before the scheduled business of the House could start. Senior RJD member Alok Mehta raised the issue of violence and police lathi charge during a student protest in Patna in recent days, following which the opposition created a ruckus, disrupting the proceedings. Alok Mehta said that peaceful protesting students were lathi-charged, which is unfortunate. He alleged that the government used force against the students, saying that governments from Bihar to Delhi are implementing anti-student policies. In response, LJP (Ram Vilas) MLA Raju Tiwari said that during the protest in Patna, media personnel and political leaders were allegedly attacked, which is a clear example of hooliganism and vandalism. He claimed that these incidents show that genuine students were not involved in the protest, but rather anti-social elements. Raju Tiwari demanded that the House unanimously condemn the individuals involved in these incidents by passing a resolution. After this, the commotion in the House increased, and the atmosphere became tense. RJD member Alok Mehta stood up from his seat, chanting slogans against the government. RJD members, holding placards with anti-government slogans, reached the center of the House, chanting slogans. The placards had anti-government slogans written on them. Opposition members said that the alleged atrocities against the students would not be tolerated. They were chanting slogans saying, "The government of lathi and bullet will not run." Meanwhile, ruling alliance members also started chanting slogans, accusing the opposition of supporting the violent incidents during the recent protests. Government supporters said that the violence by hooligans and anti-social elements during the protest clearly shows that it was not a genuine student movement. Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar repeatedly appealed to the members to return to their seats and cooperate in running the House proceedings smoothly, but the commotion continued. The Speaker tried to restore order in the House, but due to the continuous uproar, the Assembly proceedings were adjourned till 12 pm. Meanwhile, in the Bihar Assembly on Friday, a severe uproar erupted when the state government informed the House that there is no provision or procedure in official records to officially register the Bhumihar community as "Bhumihar Brahmin". Responding to a notice by BJP MLA Jivesh Mishra, Deputy Chief Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav said that there is no legal or administrative procedure in Bihar to register a particular caste as "Bhumihar Brahmin". He also clarified that the government has not received any proposal in this regard, nor is there any plan to officially include this name in official records. Mr. Yadav said that if the term "Bhumihar-Brahmin" has been used in any official document against the existing laws, it will be corrected according to the established rules. BJP MLAs from the Bhumihar community strongly objected to the minister's response and accused the government of rejecting their historical identity. The controversy began in the Bihar Assembly when BJP MLA Jivesh Kumar Mishra raised the question through a notice as to why the Bhumihar caste is mentioned only as "Bhumihar" in official records.
