Sushant Choudhary has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar. He took oath as the Chief Minister at a swearing-in ceremony held at Patna's Lok Bhavan this morning. This is the first time in Bihar's history that a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is assuming the office of Chief Minister. On Tuesday (April 14), Janata Dal United chief Nitish Kumar had resigned as the Chief Minister of Bihar, handing over the responsibility to Sushant Choudhary while expressing hope for a better future for Bihar.
Notably, several key leaders were present at the swearing-in ceremony, including BJP national president Nityanand Rai, Rajya Sabha member and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Minister J.P. Nadda, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, JD(U) acting president Sanjay Kumar Jha, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (also known as Lalan Singh), Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi, RLSP president Upendra Kushwaha, and LJP (Ram Vilas) MP Arun Bharati. Sushant Choudhary has become the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar.
Apart from Sushant Choudhary, two Deputy Chief Ministers from the JD(U) quota have also taken oath. Vijay Choudhary and Vijendra Yadav from JD(U) have been made Deputy Chief Ministers, which is being seen as a major change in Bihar politics. Notably, there is a special similarity between the state's new Chief Minister Sushant Choudhary and JD(U)'s two Deputy Chief Ministers, Vijendra Yadav and Vijay Choudhary. In fact, while Sushant Choudhary has been in several parties before joining the BJP, Vijay Choudhary and Vijendra Yadav have also been in other parties.
Bihar's newly elected Chief Minister started his political career with the RJD and came to the BJP via Jitan Ram Manjhi's 'HUM' party and JD(U). Vijay Choudhary started his political career with the Congress party, but later joined JD(U) and became close to former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Similarly, Vijendra Prasad started his political journey in 1990, when he was elected as an MLA on a Janata Dal ticket. In 1991, when Lalu Prasad Yadav's term began, he was made a Minister of State for Energy. In 1997, when Janata Dal split into two factions, Sharad Yadav and Lalu Prasad formed two separate factions. At that time, Vijendra Yadav chose Sharad Yadav and has been with JD(U) since then.
It is worth noting that Nitish Kumar has left the Chief Minister's post to go to the Rajya Sabha. His departure from Bihar is being seen as the end of an era, but he has said that he will continue to provide guidance. Nitish Kumar has set a new record by taking oath as a Rajya Sabha member. He has become the sixth leader from Bihar to have been a member of all four houses - the Assembly, Legislative Council, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha.
