Patna, 24 March (ABN). Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been re-elected unopposed as the national president of the Janata Dal United (JDU) for the fourth time, and will hold the position until 2028. The formal announcement will be made at 2:30 pm, after which he will be presented with his election certificate. Returning Officer and JDU leader Anil Hegde will present him with the certificate. Since Nitish Kumar was the only candidate to file a nomination for the post, the election process was merely a formality. JDU's Executive President Sanjay Jha stated that Nitish Kumar's nomination was filed on 19 March at the JDU's national office in Delhi. The nomination papers were submitted to the Returning Officer in two sets. The last date for withdrawal of nomination was 11 am on Tuesday morning, but no other candidate filed their nomination papers. Notably, the process for the post of national president in the JDU was completely unopposed, making Nitish Kumar's re-election a certainty. Notably, Nitish Kumar first became the JDU's national president in 2016, when former president Sharad Yadav resigned. He was re-elected in 2019. In 2020, he relinquished the responsibility and handed over the post to CP Singh. Later, Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan Singh) became the president, but resigned in December 2023, after which Nitish Kumar took over the party's reins again. Thus, after organizational changes, Nitish Kumar has returned as the national president, taking charge of the JDU once again.
