Patna: (ABN) Census is not just a process of collecting numbers, but it is the most important tool for policy-making for governance and administration. Only on the basis of accurate and up-to-date data can the government ensure effective implementation of projects related to education, health, infrastructure, and social welfare.
To run the census work smoothly and efficiently, it has been launched across the entire Bihar. These things were detailed by Ranjana, Director of Census Operation Bihar, along with the progress of the 'self-enumeration' initiative under the first phase, as well as future preparations.
Expressing gratitude for the active participation of the people of Bihar, the Director said that public cooperation in the self-enumeration process serves as a motivation to make a magnificent contribution to this work of national importance for the state. She informed that by the scheduled time, the residents of Bihar have successfully completed almost 47 lakh (4,682,284) self-counts.
The Director further told the media that from today, all enumerators and supervisors will visit their respective house listing blocks to physically verify the digital boundaries established on the CMMES portal. If any discrepancy or error is found, the charge officer will get it rectified through the concerned supervisor. After that, serial numbers will be assigned to all houses. Following this, details related to each house, including assets and facilities, will be recorded through a mobile application. Moreover, a verification check will be conducted for those households that have already completed the self-enumeration process, using the unique IDs created during their enrollment.
She said that the directorate's personnel have been deployed in all districts to coordinate with the local administration, making it easier to monitor operations and provide technical assistance. Arrangements have also been made to inspect from time to time to ensure that high standards of data quality are maintained.
The Director appealed to all residents of the state to fully cooperate with the census staff and provide accurate and true information. It was further clarified that all personal information collected during the census remains strictly confidential under the provisions of the Census Act 1948 and is used only for statistical purposes.
Citizens were also advised to be cautious against possible cyber fraud. It was clearly stated that census officials do not ask for information such as OTP, bank account details, Aadhaar number, PAN details, or any form of financial payment under any circumstances.
For any queries, complaints, or further information, citizens can contact the designated toll-free helpline number: 1855. Press Information Bureau, Patna's Deputy Director Lokeek Prakash and Deputy Director of the Directorate of Census Operation Sanjeev Kumar Saw were also present at the press conference.
