Patna, August 2: (ABN) The indefinite strike of Patna Municipal Corporation employees continued for the third consecutive day on Saturday in support of their three-point demands, affecting the sanitation system in various parts of the city. The accumulation of garbage in streets, markets, and residential areas has caused concern among citizens. Meanwhile, the municipal administration has appealed to the striking employees to return to work immediately, considering the impact on civic amenities and keeping in view human sympathy and public interest.
The Municipal Commissioner said in a statement that the cleanliness of a densely populated city like Patna is not only a government responsibility but also a collective social duty. He said that the disruption of the sanitation system causes difficulties for ordinary citizens and can also lead to public health problems, so employees should seek a solution to the problem through negotiations, prioritizing public interest.
He informed that an important meeting was held at the secretary level regarding the three-point demands of the employees, in which various aspects were seriously considered. The memorandum submitted by the employees has also been forwarded to the higher authorities so that a decision can be taken soon. The Commissioner assured that, as in the past, there would be no injustice in the payment of any employee's dues or wages, and all legitimate payments would be made on time.
To maintain the sanitation system in the city, the Municipal Corporation has made emergency alternative arrangements by outsourcing the cleaning responsibility to the employees of outsourcing agencies. According to the administration, these personnel will perform the cleaning work in different areas under the strict supervision of the police, so that citizens face minimal inconvenience and garbage does not accumulate.
The Municipal Commissioner warned in clear terms that if the striking employees or anyone else tries to obstruct the cleaning work, intimidate the outsourcing employees, or disrupt official work, an FIR will be registered against such individuals and legal action will be taken. He said that the administration will not compromise on the rule of law.
On the other hand, the Municipal Corporation has taken a tough stance on the issue of alleged deductions in the wages of daily wage employees. The Commissioner said that several complaints have been received against outsourcing agencies, which are being thoroughly investigated. If any agency is found guilty of exploiting employees, making illegal deductions in wages, or other irregularities, strict disciplinary and legal action will be taken against it.
He emphasized that the municipal administration is fully prepared to listen to the legitimate demands of the employees and find a suitable solution. The door to negotiations is open, and the administration hopes that through mutual dialogue, the current disruption will end soon, so that the city's sanitation system can be fully restored. Meanwhile, due to the slowdown in cleaning work caused by the strike, citizens are becoming increasingly anxious. Complaints of delayed garbage collection are emerging in several areas, while citizens have expressed hope that the administration and employees will reach a mutually agreed-upon solution soon, so that normal civic services can be restored and Patna's sanitation system can function at full speed again.
