Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday raised the issue of women's safety and empowerment with vigor during the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) election campaign in West Bengal. He adopted a tough stance against the Mamata government over the law and order situation in the state, saying that after the change of power in this election, the people will be held accountable to those who looted them.
Addressing a public meeting in Cooch Behar, PM Modi said, "If the BJP forms the government, the path to true empowerment for women will be opened, and this is our track record." He said the Bharatiya Janata Party has entered the field for the respect and prosperity of every sister and daughter of West Bengal.
PM Modi said it is essential to increase women's participation in the country's decision-making, which is why his government has made a law to reserve 33 percent of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and assemblies. Women across the country, including West Bengal, will start benefiting from this from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, and his government is working to ensure this.
Rejecting the opposition's claims that the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats would harm southern states, he said, "I want to remind all states from this stage in Cooch Behar that the states that have done better in population control will not suffer in terms of seats, but everyone will benefit."
The Prime Minister said that after the implementation of the Women's Reservation Act, all states will have their share and everyone's rights will be protected. He said, "We want to put a firm stamp in Parliament that additional seats for women should be increased so that states can benefit more from it."
On Sunday, addressing a public rally at the Brigade Ground in Cooch Behar, the Prime Minister said that the construction of the atmosphere in the state is not just a political event, but a symbol of public sentiment to change the future of Bengal. He alleged that illegal infiltration has become a serious problem in the state, and the Trinamool Congress is protecting the infiltrators and using them as a vote bank, thus compromising security and social balance.
The Prime Minister said the central government is committed to stopping infiltration and is taking continuous steps in this direction. He termed the politics of appeasement as a threat to the state's identity and said that strong leadership is necessary to protect Bengal's cultural and historical heritage.
On the issue of law and order, he referred to the Malda incident, saying that incidents like the abduction of judicial officers are alarming. He further said that when the judicial process is not safe, it is natural to question the security of ordinary citizens. According to him, a situation like "Maha Jungle Raj" has arisen in the state, and law and order have been completely destroyed.
On the issue of farmers, the Prime Minister said that in the state, farmers are not getting the right price for their produce. Especially, potato farmers are suffering losses due to the lack of cold storage facilities. He assured that if the BJP forms the government, the agriculture sector will be strengthened, and farmers will get better facilities.
He said this election is about the future of West Bengal, and appealed to the voters to cast their votes keeping in mind the future of their children, the interests of farmers, the protection of women, and the development of the state. He expressed confidence that the BJP's victory will lead to the formation of a new government in the state and will put an end to the injustices being done to the entire state, including North Bengal.
While talking about women's empowerment, the Prime Minister said that the central government has taken several important steps in this direction. He said that about 30 million women have been made "Lakshmi Didis" in the country, and efforts are being made to implement 33 percent reservation in Parliament and state assemblies. He said that women's safety and dignity are the top priority of the BJP.
Accusing the Trinamool Congress government of promoting syndicate rule, cut money, and corruption, the Prime Minister said that this has led to the closure of industries and a decrease in employment opportunities, forcing youths to migrate. He said that Bengal, which was once among the leading states in the country, has now become weak.
On the issue of unemployment, he said that the future of the youth has been compromised. Referring to the teacher recruitment scam, he alleged that those in power are involved in it, which has eroded the trust of the youth and weakened the system.
In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister appealed to the voters to exercise their right to vote without any fear and pressure on polling day. He said that the people should have faith in the law, and the BJP's victory will put an end to the atmosphere of fear in the state.
