Re-polling ordered at 15 polling stations of two assembly constituencies on May 2

Kolkata: Under the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, the Election Commission has ordered re-polling at 15 polling stations in two assembly constituencies in South 24 Parganas district on May 2. The commission has taken this step by canceling the polling held at these centers on April 29, after which electoral activities have once again intensified in the concerned areas.

In an official letter sent to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, the Election Commission stated that this decision was made based on the reports of the concerned Returning Officers and Observers. According to the commission, irregularities were found in the voting process at some polling stations in the 142-Magrahat West and 143-Diamond Harbour assembly constituencies, which affected the principles of free and fair elections. On this basis, the polling at these centers was canceled under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

As per the commission's order, re-polling will be held at all 15 polling stations from 7 am to 6 pm on May 2, 2026. The administration has been directed to ensure proper security arrangements and take all necessary measures to make the voting process transparent.

Re-polling will be held at 11 polling stations in the 142-Magrahat West assembly constituency, including Uttar Yerpur FP School (Room No. 2), Nazra FP School (Room No. 1 and 2), Deula FP School (Room No. 1), Ghola Naviyapara Girls High Madrasah (Room No. 2), Ektara Milia FP School (Room No. 1 and 2), Ektara Milia Dhoura FP School (Room No. 1), and Baharpuria Karkaria FP School (Room No. 1, 2, and 3).

Similarly, re-polling will also be held at four polling stations in the 143-Diamond Harbour assembly constituency, including Bagda Junior High School, Chanda FP School (Room No. 2), Hari Deypur FP School, and Rainagar FP School (Room No. 2). The Election Commission has directed the local administration to widely publicize the information about re-polling in these areas, so that voters can get timely information. At the same time, all candidates have also been asked to be informed in writing about this decision, to maintain transparency in the electoral process.

It is clear that voting was held on these seats on April 29, but later, after receiving reports, irregularities were pointed out, after which the commission took a strict step and decided to re-poll. The results of the West Bengal Assembly elections are expected on May 4, for which preparations have been completed across the state and political activities are at their peak.
