Patna, 29 April (Representative): Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Science and Technology Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that due to the promotion of technical education in Bihar, the number of students going to other states has decreased significantly, and now quality education is available within the state itself. During a press conference in Patna, he said that as a result of the policies of the former Chief Minister, development has taken place in every field, including education, and the new Chief Minister is taking these policies forward. He informed that earlier, students had to go out of the state for engineering and technical education, which also increased the financial burden, but now with the increase in the number of engineering and polytechnic institutions in Bihar, students are getting the opportunity to receive education near their homes at a lower cost.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, engineering colleges and 46 polytechnic institutions have been established in 38 districts of the state, from which thousands of students are becoming employable every year after receiving education. He said that the positive results of the "Saath Nischay" program are now coming to the fore, and students are getting good jobs. Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that in today's era, it is not possible to imagine life without science and technology. Technology has become involved in every aspect of daily life, making work easier and faster. Therefore, technical education is being given special importance in the state.
He further informed that Centers of Excellence have been established in various colleges, where the standard of education has been improved, resulting in an increase in the demand for related courses. Along with this, by providing 33% reservation for women, they are also being promoted in the field of education, which has promoted women's empowerment. On this occasion, the Secretary of the Department, Lokesh Kumar Singh, said that for the academic year 2025-26, 14,553 seats are available in government engineering colleges and 17,243 seats in polytechnic institutions. He said that the fee for these institutions has been kept very low so that poor students can also easily receive education.
He further informed that job opportunities are also increasing in the state, and in the year 2025-26, about 15,246 students have got jobs in various private companies so far. During the event, emphasizing women's empowerment, Vijay Choudhary noted that one-third of the seats in Bihar's engineering colleges have been reserved for women. He also quoted a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which the Prime Minister remarked that when it comes to women's empowerment, Bihar is unparalleled. As a result of these government policies, there has been a rapid increase in the participation of young women in technical fields, which is a milestone towards the development of the state.
To ensure that technical education in Bihar reaches every section of society, the fee structure has been made extremely affordable. Secretary Lokesh Kumar said that government engineering colleges in Bihar charge only Rs 10 as monthly tuition fees. Additionally, the admission fee has also been fixed at a nominal Rs 10, which is unparalleled in any other state in the country. With the help of these low fees, polytechnic colleges and engineering institutions are currently operating successfully in every district of Bihar.
Discussing the expansion of the sector within the state, the Secretary of the Department announced that a new polytechnic college will soon be opened in Bagha. Its objective is to make technical education accessible to young people in remote areas within their own regions. The government's priority is to further strengthen the infrastructure in every district, so that students from Bihar can be well-prepared to face the challenges of the global market. During the press conference, it was emphasized that these reforms in technical education have taken Bihar to new heights of development.
Other senior officials, including Department Director Ahmed Mahmood, Secretary of the State Technical Education Council Chandrashekhar Singh, and Vice-Chancellor of Bihar Engineering University Suresh Kant Verma, were also present at the press conference.
