Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first hydrogen train on Friday, saying that just as the country's first rail service is associated with Mumbai, Jind's name will also be etched in history with this modern train. PM Modi flagged off the train at Jind Junction and also laid the foundation stone for several development projects.
Addressing the public on the occasion, he said, Jind is not an ordinary land, it is a land of bravery and pride. For me, coming to Jind is like opening a window to old memories. I came to Jind decades ago for organizational work. The affection and love you people gave me, I have not forgotten till today. Memories like Marra Bhains' milk, curd, and ghee are unforgettable.
He said, in all these years, Jind's ghee has not changed, but the temperament here has changed. Today, Jind is becoming a model of good governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the past years, the entire Haryana has moved on the path of development.
The Prime Minister said, today the country has got its first hydrogen train from here. Jind's name has been recorded in the pages of history. We read that the first train in India ran between Mumbai and Thane. Similarly, in the future, when the hydrogen train is mentioned, Jind, Sonipat, and Haryana's name will also be taken.
Notably, this train will cover a distance of 89 kilometers from Jind to Sonipat. During this, the train will pass through Jind City, Pandu Pindara Junction, Lalit Kheda, Bhanbiwa, Isapur Khedi, Batana, Khandrai, Gohana Junction, Rabbra, Lath, Mohana Haryana, and Barwasni stations.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated the people of Jind on this significant progress in the modernization of Indian Railways. He said that on this occasion, Haryana has also got a gift of other development projects worth more than Rs 14,000 crore, including two medical colleges.
He praised the people of Haryana, saying that the way people are participating in the cleanliness campaign with new enthusiasm is very welcome. He said that the Government of India will continue to work with the same determination for the development and modernization of the railways.
Notably, this passenger train running between Jind and Sonipat can carry approximately 2,600 passengers at a time. This train, designed and manufactured in India, has been completely developed with the help of local technology. The maximum speed of this train is 75 km/h, while its design has been prepared keeping in mind a speed of up to 110 km/h. With the launch of this train, India has joined the list of few countries where hydrogen-powered trains are being operated regularly. These countries include Germany, Japan, China, and the US.
According to the Ministry of Railways, this 10-coach train runs on electricity generated by a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen and only emits water vapor. This train is being seen as an important step towards achieving India's net-zero emission goal and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar were also present on the occasion.
