Patna (ABN): The state has taken a major step towards providing ready-made houses to the poor and homeless families of Bihar. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary participated in the entry program of 2 lakh 35 thousand houses to be completed in the financial year 2026-27 under Prime Minister Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and distributed the keys of the newly constructed houses among the beneficiaries and approval letters to the newly selected beneficiaries. On the same occasion, the letter regarding the new target set by the Central Government for Bihar was also handed over to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister inaugurated the program organized by the Department of Rural Development at Bapu Sabhagar in the Samrat Ashok Convention Center premises by lighting a candle and watering the plants. A short film on achievements, progress and key aspects of the scheme of Prime Minister Awas Yojana-Gramin was also screened during the event.
Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over a letter to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary regarding the target of 1.18 lakh 937 ready-made houses allocated to Bihar for the financial year 2026-27 under PM Awas Yojana-Gramin. Bihar will get an aid of Rs 13,427 crore from the central government for this goal. Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister said that today is a day of pride and honor for Bihar. This program of providing ready-made houses to poor families will take the state in a new direction of development. He said that only 3 million ready-made houses were constructed in Bihar from 1986 to 2014 under the Indira Awas Yojana, while under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 5 million ready-made houses were allotted to poor families from 2014 to 2026. The Chief Minister said that in the 2018 survey, 19 Lakhs of families were identified who were deprived of ready houses. With the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, these families have also benefited from PM Awas Yojana-Gramin.
Samrat Chowdhury said that for the families who have been given the keys to their houses today, it is not just a house but a means to give their dreams a new height. A roof over one's head not only provides security and dignity to the family but also increases self-confidence. He said that the fruits of development should reach every needy family in the society. When all the families have ready houses, only then will India move rapidly towards becoming a developed and strong country and Bihar will be prosperous.
The Chief Minister mentioned the 'Sehiyog Programme' and said that it is an important program to bring justice to the people and show the officers the right direction. Under this, it is ensured that the applications are processed within 30 days and action is taken against the officers who do not take action within the stipulated period. He said that till now 6 lakh 42 thousand applications have been received under the 'Sehiog Programme', out of which 96% of the applications have been settled. First notice has been issued to 9,500 officials, second notice to 950 officers and third notice to 350 officers.
Mentioning the activities of Jeevika for economic empowerment of women in Bihar, the Chief Minister said that 1 crore 81 lakh Jeevika didis are associated with self-help groups in the state, out of which more than 30 lakh women have become Lakhpati. Arrangements should be made to establish, so that the products produced by women can get a wider market.
Samrat Chaudhary said that for the development of Bihar, full support is being received from the central government. He appealed to Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to continue visiting Bihar and extend full cooperation to make the state prosperous, so that the rural areas can be more organized and developed.
Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan praised the initiatives being taken by the Bihar government in the field of rural development. Appreciating the 'Sehiyog Programme', he said that other states should learn from this program and adopt it. Mentioning the achievements of Jeevika in Bihar for empowering women, he said that the annual income of a large number of Jeevika didis has exceeded one lakh rupees.
At the start of the program, Additional Chief Secretary, Rural Development Department HR Srinivas welcomed the Chief Minister by presenting a green bouquet and a momento. Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Deputy Chief Minister Bijender Prasad Yadav, Rural Development Minister Sharon Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary Rural Development Department HR Srinivas also spoke on the occasion. Minister Ram Karpal Yadav, Rural Affairs Minister Sunil Kumar, Revenue and Reforms Minister Dr. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, Social Welfare Minister Dr. Shweta Gupta, Chief Minister's Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, Jiveka Chief Executive Officer Himanshu Sharma and many public representatives, dignitaries, senior officers, beneficiaries and their families were present.
