Gogamukh: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing an election rally here on Wednesday, emphasized that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Assam is set to achieve a 'hat-trick' of victories. He made several major promises regarding the implementation of a uniform civil code (UCC) in Assam, protection of tribal culture, relief from floods, expansion of infrastructure, and welfare schemes for the poor.
Launching a scathing attack on the Congress party, the Prime Minister said that this election in Assam is a mandate to transform "Viksit Assam" into "Viksit Bharat". Addressing the election rally in Gogamukh of Dhemaji district, Modi said that the enthusiasm of the people is a clear indication that the BJP-led NDA government will return to power in the state for the third consecutive term.
He noted that this was his first public rally in Assam after the announcement of elections, and the massive crowd that gathered there is a guarantee of the "hat-trick" win. The Prime Minister confirmed that while a uniform civil code will be implemented in Assam, the traditions and culture of the tribal communities living in the Sixth Schedule areas will be protected simultaneously and fully.
He termed this move as "a major pledge to protect the identity of Assam" and emphasized that the BJP is known for fulfilling its promises. He said that over the past 10 years, the state has witnessed a new era of "service and good governance". First, under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal and then Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state has embarked on new paths of development.
Modi emphasized that this election in Assam is not limited to the boundaries of the state but is closely linked to the broader mission of building a "Viksit Bharat". Referring to the government's welfare schemes for the poor, the Prime Minister highlighted that during the last decade, more than 2.2 million poor families have been provided with permanent (pukka) houses in Assam.
The BJP's election manifesto has promised to provide houses to all those families who have not yet benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Prime Minister Housing Scheme). He assured that in the future, an additional 1.5 million families will be guaranteed permanent residences.
Emphasizing women's empowerment, the Prime Minister highlighted the 'Lakhpati Didi' campaign. He said that under this scheme, almost 300,000 women have already become 'lakhpati didis', and the target is to increase this number to 40 lakhs in the near future.
Furthermore, a promise was made to expand the 'Arunodya Scheme', which will benefit a large number of families. Addressing the issue of floods, the Prime Minister noted that the BJP government has launched the 'Flood-Free Assam Mission' at a cost of over Rs 18,000 crores.
Modern embankments are being built across the state, and continuous efforts are being made to find a permanent solution to the problem. Referring to the Subansiri Hydro Electric Project, he said that it will play a crucial role in saving Assam from floods.
Touching upon the agricultural sector, he stated that under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme), nearly 1.1 million farmers in Assam have already been disbursed more than Rs 730 crores in crop insurance claims.
Describing Assam as a future hub of technology, the Prime Minister announced that the production of semiconductor chips will soon commence in the state. In the coming years, mobile phones, automobiles, televisions, and other electronic devices will be powered by chips manufactured in Assam, thus establishing the state's identity as a technology hub alongside its famous tea industry.
Listing the achievements in the infrastructure sector, Mr. Modi pointed out that the Congress party built only three bridges over the Brahmaputra river in 60-65 years, whereas the BJP's 'double-engine' government has built five major bridges in just the last 10-11 years, significantly improving the lives of the people.
Highlighting improvements in the healthcare sector, he said that Assam had only six medical colleges earlier, which has now increased to 14, with work underway on 10 additional medical colleges.
Launching a scathing attack on the Congress party, the Prime Minister alleged that it has consistently prioritized "family politics" and "vote bank politics". He said that the Congress had earlier attempted to introduce a bill on communal violence - which is a move designed to divide society - and is now making similar attempts in Assam.
He alleged that the Congress is trying to settle illegal infiltrators within the state. Modi assured that the BJP-led NDA government will free the farmers, tribals, and forest lands from encroachments and will protect the "pride and identity" of Assam.
