Bhagalpur, 4 May: The damage to the Vikramshila Bridge, considered the lifeline of Bhagalpur, has now directly affected both daily life and commercial activities. The trade of fruits, vegetables, and milk has been particularly severely affected. Farmers from rural areas used to travel daily to Bhagalpur city on bicycles and motorcycles, covering a distance of about 30 kilometers, to sell their produce and feed their families. However, with the bridge closed, they now face significant difficulties. Many farmers are now forced to cross the Ganges using private boats, increasing the risk. Meanwhile, cargo vehicles are now forced to take longer alternative routes, increasing travel time and expenses, which can have a direct impact on market prices. The traffic police are continuously using microphones to inform people about alternative routes and advise them not to travel towards the Vikramshila Bridge. Overall, the bridge closure has not only disrupted traffic but is also having a significant impact on the local economy.
