BJP government formation will mark the end of hooliganism in West Bengal: Amit Shah

Awaz E Bihar•13 April 2026 at 05:37 pm•3 views•2 min read

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday accused the Trinamool Congress of promoting 'goonda raj and corruption' in West Bengal, saying that after May 4, strict action will be taken against the culprits if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government in the state.
Amit Shah, while addressing a rally in Bolpur, Birbhum, claimed that BJP workers were subjected to severe atrocities in the area after the 2021 elections. He appealed to voters to bid farewell to the Mamata Banerjee government, promising that those involved in syndicates and the 'commission culture' would be dealt with strictly.
He said, "We will hang them upside down and set them straight." He also claimed that the 'double engine government' would usher in a new era of development in the state. Amit Shah warned alleged anti-social elements to stay at home on April 23, the voting day, or face arrest after May 5. He said the people of West Bengal would respond to bombs with ballot papers and to fear with confidence.
He said on corruption charges that the money from central schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission did not reach the beneficiaries. He pointed to poor infrastructure in areas like Mayureshwar, accusing Trinamool leaders of embezzling funds. He also alleged irregularities in recruitment, ration distribution, MGNREGA, and housing schemes.
The Union Minister criticized the state government over women's safety, promising that Bengal would be made so secure for women that they could move out at night without fear. He promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) if the BJP comes to power and reiterated the commitment to stop infiltration, saying that after May 4, infiltrators would be identified and sent back.
Earlier, during his first rally at the Plassey Mungal Club ground in Bolpur, Amit Shah directed security personnel to allow people to enter without checking so that a specific message could be conveyed. He will address another rally in Khairasol, Birbhum, today, followed by a public meeting and roadshow in West Burdwan.
