Patna: Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly and National Working President of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Tejashwi Yadav termed the Jamui incident as very serious and shameful and criticized the state government for the law and order issue. In a press conference on Tuesday, he questioned the safety of women and girls, sought an answer from the government and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary regarding his earlier statement. Tejashwi Yadav said that the incident that took place in Jamui cannot be considered a minor or isolated incident in any way. According to him, women and girls are feeling unsafe in the state. He also referred to the statements of some government leaders, in which such incidents were described as 'sporadic' or 'isolated' incidents. Tejaswi said that the seriousness of such incidents should not be downplayed. Also raising questions about the police action in the Jamui case, Tejaswi said that according to the police, seven to eight people were involved in the incident, so action should be taken against all the accused. On Tuesday, the police arrested the alleged prime accused Nandan Yadav after he was shot in the leg during an encounter. According to the police, a clash took place during the operation and the accused was injured. Earlier, three accused were arrested, while a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter. Tejashwi Yadav also questioned the transparency of the Madhabhir proceedings. He said that the government should clarify the circumstances under which the encounter took place and what procedure was adopted during the police action. According to him, legal action against those involved in crimes is necessary, but accountability and transparency should also be ensured in every action. He said that action should be taken against all the people involved in the Jamui incident as per the law and justice should be given to the victim's family. Tejaswi also mentioned other recent incidents against women and girls and demanded the government to give details of the action taken so far in these cases. In the press conference, Tejaswi also raised the issue of the death of an under-trial prisoner in Rohtas' Sasaram Mandal Jail. They demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter, action against the responsible officers and compensation to the victim's family. According to him, the prisoner was sent to judicial custody on September 13 and died during treatment at Sadar Hospital on September 15. Tejaswi also alleged irregularities in transfers and postings in the police administration and said that the government should take timely action in cases such as crimes against women and girls and deaths in custody.
