Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, on Monday evening on the first leg of his three-nation tour, where he was warmly received by President Joko Widodo himself. As Prime Minister Modi's plane entered Indonesian airspace, Indonesian Air Force fighter jets escorted him to Jakarta airport. Mr. Modi said in a social media post that he was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of President Widodo's welcome and looked forward to bilateral talks with him.
The Prime Minister wrote, "Arrived in Jakarta. I am overwhelmed by the warmth of President Joko Widodo's welcome at the airport. In 2018, we elevated our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has benefited our people. During this visit, President Widodo and I will discuss ways to further accelerate this partnership in various fields. President Widodo and I will visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, which will further strengthen the close cultural ties between our countries. I also look forward to interacting with the Indian community during my stay in Indonesia." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that four of President Widodo's ministers also came to receive Mr. Modi. This is Prime Minister Modi's first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. The Indian community also warmly welcomed the Prime Minister. Mr. Modi left this morning for a six-day tour of three countries, including Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand.
