Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the citizenship of refugees coming to India due to religious persecution will be protected and they do not need to worry about it. Addressing a public meeting in Krishnanagar of Nadia district during the first phase of voting in West Bengal, PM Modi assured the refugee communities of protection of citizenship and made several welfare announcements for women. He said that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government, the citizenship amendment process will be expedited so that eligible people can be provided with all rights and facilities. Referring to the Matua and Namsudra communities in particular, he said that these communities do not need to be intimidated and the government will protect their rights. He said, "I have come here to make a promise. No refugee family needs to fear Trinamool, be it a Matua family or a Namsudra family. Those who have come to India due to religious persecution, Modi is with them. After the BJP government comes to power in the state, the CAA process will be expedited. You will get all the documents and facilities that you are entitled to as an Indian citizen." PM Modi targeted the ruling Trinamool Congress over women's issues, alleging that adequate measures have not been taken for the protection and empowerment of women in the state. He announced ten guarantees for women, including increasing the recruitment of women in the police force, providing assistance of Rs 36,000 under the "Matri Shakti Bima Card", Rs 50,000 for women's education, and Rs 21,000 for pregnant women. He said that after the BJP comes to power, financial assistance of Rs 36,000 will be provided to children so that they can get proper nutrition. PM Modi also promised to expand the scope of the Sankhiya Samriddhi Yojana, Mudra Loan, Ayushman Bharat, and PM Awas Yojana. Prime Minister Modi praised the role of the Election Commission, calling the electoral environment relatively peaceful, and said that trust has been established in the electoral process. He said, "In the last 50 years, this is an election where there has been almost no violence. Earlier, there used to be murders and they would be termed as suicides. According to the information I have received so far, this election is also being held in a peaceful manner. I thank the Election Commission of India for establishing trust in the electoral process." He said that wherever the voting percentage is high, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) benefits, and a similar result will be seen in West Bengal. PM Modi also referred to the now-viral Jhalmuri story. He said, "I have heard that Jhalmuri has shocked some people. I had Jhalmuri, but the 'Jhal' (spiciness) has affected Trinamool." During the meeting, he also leveled allegations against the state government over corruption and law and order, and said that the promises made to the public have not been fulfilled. PM Modi said, "They had promised model schools, but thousands of schools are closed. They had promised to provide water through pipes, but dirty sewage water is reaching your homes. They had promised lakhs of small and medium businesses, but thousands have been closed." The Prime Minister said that those who are misusing public resources will have to answer and accountability will be ensured in the state.
