Patna, August 27 :: Chief Minister Mr. Samrat Chaudhary today conducted an aerial survey of the Gandak river from Sonepur to Valmikinagar to assess the situation in the border areas of Bihar and possible flood affected areas in view of the floods in Nepal. Meanwhile, flood situation, potential impact and preparations of the administration were also reviewed in Bagha, Valmiki Nagar, Betiya and Motihari areas. After reaching Valmikinagar, the Chief Minister inspected the Valmikinagar Barrage. He reviewed the water flow situation upstream and downstream of the barrage. The flow of water at the time of inspection was about 1.06 lakh cusecs. The Chief Minister also inspected the control room located in the barrage and got information about the water level and water flow of Gandak river from the officials of the water resources department. The officers informed the Chief Minister that on 26th August 2026, at 11 pm, the water flow in Gandak river had reached its highest level of 1,50,200 cusecs, after which the water level recorded a continuous decline. However, due to late rains in Devghat area, the water level of Gandak river is again rising. Currently, there is no adverse impact on the embankments. The situation is being continuously monitored by the department. The Chief Minister also received updates on the situation from the DN and SP of West Champaran and reviewed the administrative preparations regarding possible impacts, necessary precautionary measures, security arrangements and relief and rescue operations. He directed the concerned officers to work diligently, keep constant vigil in sensitive areas and take immediate action if necessary. The Chief Minister said that the safety of the citizens in the flood situation and providing them with all possible assistance is the top priority of the state government. All concerned departments and district administrations should be fully alert and diligent and ensure necessary preparations to deal with any possible situation.
There is a decreasing trend in the water level of Ganga river. However, there may be a slight rise in the water level of 1 to 2 cm at some places. In view of this, the water resources department and the district administration have been instructed to maintain continuous monitoring. The Chief Minister said that the government is continuously monitoring the flood situation and all necessary operations related to relief, rescue and safety measures are being taken on priority basis in the affected areas. During the inspection, Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister Mr. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Mr. Pratiya Amrit, Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Secretary of Water Resources Department Dr. Chandrasekhar Singh and other senior officials were present.
