The Martyrdom of Babri Mosque or the Murder of Muslims' Honor and Dignity

Awaz E Bihar•6 December 2025 at 08:41 am•2 views•4 min read

I am Muhammad Ikram ul Haq, I am present before you once again. December 6, 1992, was a black day in the history of India - or the day of the murder of the dignity of Muslims. On that day, democracy was openly disgraced in India - the Babri Masjid was martyred in front of the Indian army. The government of Uttar Pradesh had assured the then Prime Minister, the late Narasimha Rao, that the karsevaks would only perform puja and return, and no harm would come to the structure of the mosque. But that did not happen. The target was the mosque, and on the signal of the then Chief Minister, the late Kalyan Singh, lakhs of karsevaks demolished the 500-year-old mosque in just three and a half hours. The murder of democracy was taking place, and the Prime Minister of the country was watching TV. When hammers were being struck on the mosque, the Congress government was at the center, and the BJP government was in Uttar Pradesh.

Babur, who defeated the King of India, Ibrahim Lodi, in the Battle of Panipat in 1526 and became the emperor of India, laid the foundation of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1528 under the guidance of Mir Baqi, the commander of his army. The construction of the mosque was completed in the same year. Babur never got the chance to offer prayers in this mosque. In 1885, Sant Raghuvar Das filed the first lawsuit to build a Ram temple near it, which was given a boost by the English government. But regular prayers continued to be offered in the mosque. The last prayer in the mosque was offered on the night of December 22, 1949, after which the mosque was locked, and the gates were never opened for prayers again. Then, through the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, a claim was made in court for the Ram Janmabhoomi. The Babri Masjid and Ram Janmabhoomi gave birth to the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980. Since then, the Babri Masjid and Ram Janmabhoomi have become the center of politics. The Bhagalpur communal riots of October 24, 1989, are a living example of this. Now, the Ram temple and Babri Masjid have become a powerful issue for extremist parties, and the political wind they got has brought the BJP to power and ousted the secular parties from power.

It is with great regret that I have to write that today, in the central government, not a single cabinet minister has been appointed from among the 20 crore Muslims, not a single minister. In the government of Bihar, there is only one minister, Jamai Khan, thanks to the mercy of Nitish Kumar. From 1980 to 2010, the case was fought, and the Nirmohi Akhara and other Hindu organizations filed a lawsuit for the construction of the Ram temple. In 2010, the Allahabad High Court, in its verdict, divided the disputed land into three parts, one of which was also given to the Babri Masjid Action Committee. However, no party accepted this verdict. But when the Congress government's sun set in 2014 and the BJP government came to power, Muslims' hopes were also dashed from the judiciary. The same thing happened that was feared - on November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court, despite all the evidence, did not give a verdict in favor of the Babri Masjid. The Supreme Court accepted that no Ram Janmabhoomi was demolished to build the mosque, but since the Hindus have a strong attachment to Ayodhya and Ram, the Supreme Court, on the basis of this attachment, allowed the Hindus to build a temple at the site of the mosque. In Ayodhya, no mosque will be built in its place, but instead, the government will build a mosque at another place, on five acres of land, at its own expense. All Hindu organizations welcomed this verdict, but Muslims condemned it and expressed their grief.

Today, the government has not been able to provide five acres of land for the mosque. Today, in this country, the secular party has been shown the way out of power in the name of Muslim leadership. Today, Muslims are going through a weak and fragile phase politically, and yet they are celebrating after winning just five seats. This nation has no regret or sorrow for its downfall; instead, it is engrossed in kite-flying. Only God can save this sinking ship of the nation. In Bihar, we once had 35 seats, but today we have been reduced to 11 and have become very weak politically. This Hyderabadi biryani has taken away our political awareness and put a kite-flying string in our hands, so we cannot see the ground reality.
