Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday released the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) manifesto for the West Bengal Assembly elections, which announced several schemes for women. Mr. Shah named the manifesto "Sankalp Patra". He clarified that if the BJP forms a government in Bengal, a strong, capable, and competent Chief Minister will be appointed and the Chief Minister will be from Bengal itself. The manifesto also promised to initiate the process of including Kurmali and Rajbongshi languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
In his address, Shah said the BJP is committed to providing strong local leadership in the state and aims to bring a era of trust. He said the Chief Minister will be from Bengal and will work in better coordination with the Centre. The BJP has presented a comprehensive roadmap in its Sankalp Patra, focusing on employment, women empowerment, agriculture, industry, and infrastructure development, with the goal of coming to power in West Bengal.
The party has promised to create one crore employment and self-employment opportunities in the next five years. Additionally, it has announced a monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,000 to unemployed youths and a scholarship of Rs 15,000 for competitive exam preparation.
For women, the party has promised a monthly financial assistance of Rs 3,000, 33 percent reservation in government jobs, and the establishment of women police battalions and Durga Security Squads. It has also announced assistance of Rs 21,000 to pregnant women and provision of health facilities.
The manifesto has also given special attention to farmers, promising to promote the cultivation of paddy, potato, and mango, and to link fishermen with the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana to make Bengal a major fish-producing state.
The BJP has also planned to build deep-sea ports at Tajpur and Kulpi, set up an industrial park at Singur, and restart closed jute mills to create new employment opportunities.
The manifesto has promised to fully implement all central schemes, including Ayushman Bharat, in the state, and provide facilities like free HPV vaccination and breast cancer screening. It has also promised to implement the Seventh Pay Commission within 45 days and provide dearness allowance at par with the Centre.
The BJP has also proposed to establish institutions like AIIMS, IIT, and IIM in North Bengal, promote the tea industry in Darjeeling, and build a Vande Mataram Museum. It has also reiterated its promise to initiate the process of including Kurmali and Rajbongshi languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
